Thermal Binding
Thermal binding in printing is a method of creating professionally bound documents, such as reports, presentations, manuals, or books, using heat-activated adhesive strips or glue. This process is commonly used to produce high-quality, polished documents without the need for traditional binding methods like stapling or sewing.

As a trade printing specialist, we take the thermal binding process very seriously, so that your clients’ demands go beyond their expectations. Here’s an overview of the thermal binding process:
- Preparing the document: The pages of the document are collated in the correct order and aligned along the spine.
- Applying the adhesive strip: A pre-glued thermal binding strip is placed along the spine edge of the document, covering the entire length of the document.
- Heating the adhesive: The document, along with the binding strip, is placed in a thermal binding machine. This machine uses heat to melt the adhesive in the strip, turning it into a liquid.
- Activation of the adhesive: The heat-activated adhesive melts and permeates the paper's fibers, creating a strong bond between the pages.
- Cooling and setting: After the adhesive is activated, the document is allowed to cool down and the adhesive solidifies, forming a durable and secure bind.
